Call for student leadership at NSBA

April 22nd, 2007

“Raising leaders is the next educational imperative. This cannot wait.”

So said Douglas Reeves, CEO and founder of the Leadership and Learning Center at a Focus on Education at the National School Board Association (NSBA) conference last week. Reeves challenged the audience of school board members,

“Do the students you are responsible for today have the leadership opportunities you had? The answer is most likely no because schools are robbing kids of opportunities to be leaders.”

Reeves offered more examples and connected student leadership in “a straight line” to student achievement.

This digital generation will be the future citizens of the world. The opportunities and lessons we offer to them today will shape their vision, confidence, and capabilities to be global leaders tomorrow.
